Baur au Lac World
The hotel in Zurich with more than 175 years of tradition...
Being a member of Leading Hotels of the World and Swiss Deluxe Hotels, the Baur au Lac meets the highest standards. Opened in 1844 by hotel pioneer Johannes Baur, the Baur au Lac has been setting standards for travellers from all over the world for over one and a half centuries. Empress Sissi stayed here, as did Audrey Hepburn and other great divas of film history. Even today, the most celebrated artists and high-ranking politicians of our time appreciate the proven and renowned Baur au Lac service.

Baur au Lac | Reinvention of an Icon
The "Baur au Lac Reloading" adventure, the largest renovation project in the recent history of Baur au Lac, began just over a year ago. On the blog of the same name, we gave exciting insights into the "make-over" process every week. Inspired by this, the Baur au Lac brand identity is now also to receive a new coat of paint. And once again, we want to creatively document this transformation and provide exclusive insights behind the scenes.
Baur au Lac Park
Baur au Lac’s carefully maintained heritage building, perched on the edge of Lake Zurich, is located within its own landscaped park. The vibrant green of the park with its towering trees, some of which are heritage-protected, blends with the deep blue of Lake Zurich and the glowing white snow-capped Alps on the horizon, creating a unique backdrop which our guests can enjoy during a walk or while having a drink on the adjacent terrace. In the summer months, the Baur au Lac Park is also the first address in Zurich for exclusive outdoor events and glittering parties.
Baur au Lac Honey
Since 2016, the Baur au Lac Park has been home to 80,000 gentle honey bees. Our black and yellow employees reside in a miniature version of the hotel. From there, they buzz out to diligently collect nectar for our Baur au Lac honey in Zurich's green spaces, which our guests can then enjoy at the breakfast table or purchase as a sweet souvenir at the kiosk. Did you know that city honey has the reputation of containing less pesticides and fungicides? The variety of flowers in the city, in contrast to many monocultures in the countryside, also gives the honey a particularly varied taste.
Art in the Park
The Baur au Lac Park is a magnificent garden with century-old trees overlooking shimmering Lake Zurich. Every year, shortly before Art Basel sizzles, it turns into the most coveted art space for sculptures created by world-renowned as well as emerging artists of our century.
Last June, Gigi Kracht, creator and curator of “Art in the Park”, celebrated its glorious 20th anniversary with a solo show presenting French artist, Camille Henrot. The award-winning 43-year-old artist describes her work as "different strategies man has invented to deal with desire, frustration, fear of death, and exhaustion. It's very much about life on earth".
We truly look forward to welcoming you back to “Art in the Park XXI” in 2023.
