Sustainability

Taking responsibility

We are on a journey towards a more sustainable tomorrow. We are aware that we still have a long way to go. Step by step, processes are being improved in order to use resources more responsibly and protect the environment. This commitment grows with every step we take.

Naturally cool

With a lake water pump, we use the cool water of Lake Zurich to heat and cool our hotel efficiently. The connected heat pumps run on climate-friendly electricity generated from hydropower. The result is a sustainable solution that saves energy, protects the environment, and harnesses the power of nature.

Honeybees in the Park

Since 2016, the Baur au Lac Park has been home to four bee colonies with a total of more than 80,000 honeybees of the subspecies Apis mellifera carnica. The bees contribute to pollination in the urban environment, with a foraging range of up to three kilometres. Annual honey production amounts to between 80 and 160 kilograms. To protect the colonies, the bees are temporarily relocated during major events such as the Street Parade, as vibrations can cause them stress.

SapoCycle

Of the 26 recyclable materials we return to the recycling loop, we also collect our used soaps in partnership with the non-profit organisation SapoCycle. They are hygienically reprocessed and then distributed to families in need. In this way, we combine circular economy principles with social commitment.

World CleanUp Day

For the second time, our team took part in the Swiss Clean-Up Day, organised by the Swiss Association for a Clean Environment (IGSU). Together with four representatives from IGSU, we campaigned for a cleaner environment in 2025 and collected a total of 22.5 kg of litter around Baur au Lac.
